One of the most common problems our customers encounter is computer viruses,
both real, and not-so-real. The first and most important thing to do is install
a reputable anti-virus program on your computer.
Popular commercial products include:
Norton Antivirus by Symantec
McAfee VirusScan Classic
Note: This list does not include all of the manufacturers of antivirus
software, nor does it imply endorsement of any one particular product.
Once you have your antivirus software installed, it must be kept up to date.
Most antivirus software will update automatically while you are online. Review
the documentation included with your antivirus software for more information.
Failure to keep the product up to date severely weakens the ability of the
program to keep your computer safe. As new viruses appear, these antivirus
programs are updated to recognize the latest viruses. If the product is not
updated with the current virus patterns, it is highly likely that it will not
protect your computer as well as you expect.
There are almost as many virus hoaxes floating around the Internet as there
are actual viruses. Many of the email warnings that circulate about "new viruses"
are nothing more than email pranks. For more information on these email hoaxes,

We share your frustration with the problems that computer viruses cause. It
is our hope that this document helps you better understand the problem, and what
you can do to avoid becoming a victim.
